On March 21 the United Nations celebrated the "International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1966: the date was chosen to commemorate the day of the March 21, 1960 when police Shaperville, South Africa, opened fire and killed 69 anti-war demonstrators protesting against the laws enacted by the apartheid regime.
